Safeguarding
Safeguarding at Hanging Heaton CE (VC) J&I School
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. Our primary responsibility is to ensure that all children are safe, happy, and able to learn in a secure and supportive environment. We work proactively to protect children from harm, promote their wellbeing, and help them develop the skills and confidence to stay safe both in and out of school.
All staff are trained to recognise concerns and take appropriate action. If you have any worries about a child’s safety or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to speak to us. Mrs Caspell is the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and Mr Wildey is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. Our door is always open, and we encourage parents, carers, and members of the community to share any concerns so that we can work together to keep our children safe.

If you are sad, scared or worried please speak to us.
The Desgnated Safeguarding Leader in School is Mrs Caspell.
The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader in School is Mr Wildey.

Operation Encompass
Our school works in partnership with Operation Encompass to support children who may be affected by domestic abuse. Operation Encompass ensures that schools are informed, at the earliest opportunity, when a child has experienced or been exposed to a domestic incident. This allows us to provide timely, appropriate support to help children feel safe, understood, and cared for while in school.

Early Help
Early Help is about providing support to children and families as soon as a need or concern arises, before problems escalate. Our school works closely with families, agencies, and the community to identify issues early—whether they relate to wellbeing, learning, or safety—and provide the right support and interventions. By offering help early, we aim to prevent difficulties from becoming more serious and ensure that every child can thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.
