Class 2
WELCOME TO CLASS 2
Our class is a mixed-age class made up of children from Year 1 and Year 2. Our class teacher is Mrs Daftar and our support assistant is Mrs Staves.
In Maths, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme. We develop our place value knowledge before moving onto areas of arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will then move onto other areas of maths. Throughout the topics, we also practice our reasoning skills through solving problems involving finding missing numbers, shape properties and data handling. In maths, we enjoy mental, written and practical sessions.
In English, we will study a range of fiction and non-fiction genres and poetry, including stories with familiar settings, traditional tales, recounts, instructions and more. We will develop both our reading fluency and comprehension skills as well as practice our writing skills in spelling, sentence structure, punctuation and grammar. We will enjoy a wider range of books during our Read, Lead, Succeed sessions where we explore texts in more depth.
Phonics is taught from the Little Wandle scheme of work. This year, Year 1 children will be completing the Phonics Check during June 2025.
Foundation subjects are taught in the afternoon and cover all areas of the National Curriculum. PE is taught on Tuesdays and children should attend school in their PE kits on this day. This may be outside, so children should dress appropriately for the weather.
It is important that children read often at home, practice their phonics skills, spellings and complete their homework to support their progress.
We are going to have a fun filled year and work very hard to achieve our best!
