WELCOME TO CLASS 1
Our class is a mixed-age class made up of children from Reception and Year 1. Our class teacher is Miss Wilson and our support assistant is Mrs Oliver.
On a morning, we focus on Maths, English and Phonics. On an afternoon, we broaden our skills and knowledge in lessons such as Geography, History, PE and Science.
In English, we study units based on the Primary Frameworks, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We work closely on reading and writing skills such as comprehension, spellings and sentence structure. Novels by popular children's authors and information texts are also used.
In Maths, we follow White Rose Maths, visiting a variety of units to study each term. We cover arithmetic, which involves addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We also work hard on our reasoning skills which involves finding missing numbers, shape properties and data handling. In maths, we enjoy mental, written and practical session both inside and outside the classroom using some fantastic apparatus to support our learning.
Foundation subjects are taught in the afternoon in classes, using a topic based approach and covering all areas of the National Curriculum and the Early Years Framework. We learn about some very exciting topics which we bring to life in our other subjects too.
Class 1 have PE on Thursdays. Please can you ensure that your child has an appropriate PE kit on these days (including a waterproof jacket and jogging bottoms) and brings a water bottle in to school daily.
Phonics is taught from the Little Wandle scheme of work. The children will need to practise their phonics in preparation for the Phonics Check in June 2024. It is important that children read often at home, practice their phonics skills, spellings and complete their homework to support their progress.
We are going to have a fun filled year and work very hard to achieve our best!
