Phonics at Our School

At our school, we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised as our chosen phonics programme. This systematic, synthetic phonics programme provides children with the knowledge and skills they need to become confident, fluent readers and writers.

From Reception, children take part in daily phonics lessons that are carefully planned, engaging and progressive. The programme ensures that new sounds are introduced in a clear sequence, with regular opportunities to revisit and practise previously taught learning. Reading books are closely matched to each child's phonics knowledge, enabling every pupil to experience success and build confidence as they read.

We are committed to ensuring that every child keeps up rather than catches up. Regular assessment allows us to identify pupils who need additional support, and targeted keep-up sessions help children to secure their learning quickly and confidently.

The impact of Little Wandle across our school has been exceptional with 100% of our pupil passing thier Phonics Screening check for the past two years. Children develop strong decoding skills, read with increasing fluency and accuracy, and gain the confidence to enjoy books from an early age. As their reading skills grow, so does their love of reading, laying the foundations for success across the entire curriculum.
