Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

At Hanging Heaton CE (VC) J&I School, we believe that learning a foreign language enriches children’s learning and opens up the world around them. Our MFL curriculum is carefully designed to develop pupils’ confidence, curiosity, and enthusiasm for other languages and cultures.

We teach French as our chosen Modern Foreign Language in Key Stage 2. While we have developed our own bespoke curriculum to meet the needs of our pupils, we also make use of the Jolie Ronde scheme resources to support our teaching.

Why do we use the Jolie Ronde scheme?

The Jolie Ronde scheme provides high-quality, age-appropriate resources that enhance and complement our curriculum. We use it to support our delivery in the following ways:

  • Structured progression of vocabulary and grammar skills across year groups
  • Engaging and interactive materials, including songs, stories, and role-plays, that help bring language learning to life
  • Audio resources recorded by native speakers, helping pupils develop accurate pronunciation and listening skills
  • Consistency and support for non-specialist teachers, providing clear lesson plans and activities
  • Cultural insights that help children understand more about French-speaking countries

By combining our own curriculum with the strengths of the Jolie Ronde programme, we ensure that our pupils receive a broad, balanced, and enjoyable language learning experience.
